Prior to publishing her first novel, Safety in Bear County, & Love and Other Disappoin-tments, Heather worked as a high school art teacher, a canoe and kayak leader, a yoga teacher, at a men's prison, at a women's shelter, and in restaurants. She lives in Simcoe County with her family and dogs. Her latest novel, Inside Passages, is inspired by her time teaching inmates was published in April 2026.
